2011, elections everywhere!

First the country and then the province.

May 2 ... now that did not go well. But it was nice to see the BLOC nearly obliterated by the NDP in Quebec. By my count about 44% of the ridings across the country were comfortably won with less than 50% of the valid votes cast. There was talk in the media about the "soft" voters. With all the interest, less than 62% of the electorate came out to vote. Up about 3%, better but still sad.

In other action, the May 5th referendum in the UK ... was a good example of political parties not wanting to win one for the people.

The Ontario provincial election put up the typical FPTP numbers. 69 of the 107 elections won by minority election. 50% turnout proved that more and more people are being turned off (that's part of the plan). 11% of the voters elected half the seats. Voters invited to vote, on parties with their vote on representation, were split 107 ways with four good choices. Then, to kill any hope of an unfairly short but honest opinion being cast, the surveys came out.
